NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Former LSU and current New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has been named the cover athlete for the Madden NFL 16 video game. According easports.com, fan voting took place via Madden Ultimate Team, Madden NFL Mobile and ESPN.com. The announcement was made Wednesday on a Sportscenter special segment. Beckham beat out Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski to win.
The 2nd-year pro rose to fame with his skills at the receiver position and made one of the highlight plays of the year against the Dallas Cowboys, hauling in a deep pass with one hand for a touchdown. Beckham finished his rookie year with 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games.
"Odell Beckham Jr. is a true playmaker and a perfect fit for this year's game," Randy Chase, Senior Director of Marketing for EA SPORTS said. "He's an unstoppable force out on the field, and the Madden NFL 16 cover is further vindication that the fans believe he's a player to watch in the coming years."
The Giants selected the former LSU Tiger with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Beckham prepped at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans.
