Suspect jailed in fatal St. Claude shooting; search continues for 2nd man

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A suspect is jailed and a second is at large following a fatal double shooting in St. Claude.

A 24-year-old is dead and a 23-year-old is injured following the incident on Wednesday afternoon. The shooting led to three different crime scenes.

The shooting occurred just before 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of Elysian Fields Avenue.

A Fifth District officer was in the area when he saw at least two suspects firing gunshots into a red Honda Coupe near the parking lot of Melba's Restaurant. The officer briefly chased a white Hyundai but ultimately lost sight of the vehicle in a nearby neighborhood.

Police say the red Honda left the scene of the shooting, but was found crashed several blocks away. Officers found the vehicle crashed near a construction site at the intersection of Bienville and Crozat Street. Police found one victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the front passenger's seat. He died on the scene.

Detectives learned that a second victim, who was also in the Honda, arrived at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm.

Detectives named 26-year-old Jacob Love as one of the shooters in the incident. He was taken into custody and charged with second degree murder.

Two guns were recovered at the scene, and detectives believe a second male subject is still at large. His identity in not known.
