1 dead, 1 injured in Gentilly drive-by shooting

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - One man is dead and another is injured following a drive-by shooting in Gentilly.

The incident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 2300 block of Mexico Street. Officers received reports of a "man down" near the intersection of Mexico and Spain streets.

The men were walking along Spain Street when they were approached by two unknown vehicles, New Orleans police say. Suspects in the vehicles open fired on the victims, striking both.

Officers arriving on the scene found two men shot. The first victim was suffering from gunshot wounds to the arm and chest, police say. The second victim was found shot in the leg.

Police say both victims appear to be in their early 20s.

The first victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The condition of the second victim is unknown at this time.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
