NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A section of I-10 west will be closed this weekend and it could impact your drive.
The Poydras Street on-ramp to I-10 west will be closed this weekend along with a portion of the interstate.
Beginning Friday at 10 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m., westbound I-10 will be closed to all traffic from the U.S. 90 Business West/U.S. 90 West (Claiborne Avenue) exit to the South Broad Street overpass.
Additionally, the Poydras Street entrance ramp to I-10 westbound will be completely closed to all traffic.
The closure will not impact the motorists coming from the Crescent City Connection who are entering the I-10 West/Pontchartrain Expressway.
The La. 39 (North Claiborne Avenue) entrance ramp to I-10 West will be closed in order to reduce the volume of traffic on I-10 West
To avoid traffic delays, motorists traveling from the New Orleans East/Slidell areas should exit I-10 West at I-610 to reach destinations beyond the closure. Motorists who reach the closure point and want to continue onto I-10 West will be directed to the Canal Street/Superdome exit (Exit 235B) to detour to Tulane Avenue and reenter I-10 West at the I-10/US 61(Tulane Avenue) interchange.
The closure marks the start of a $1.3 million rehabilitation project on Interstate 10 westbound to replace a girder and repair damaged steel and connection plates. All work is expected to be completed by June 2015.
