Bayou Boogaloo takes over the banks of Bayou St. John this weekend.
Crews spent Friday morning building floating docks for people who want to canoe or kayak up to the bar.
The fest begins Friday evening with three stages of music, food from Mid-City restaurants and activities for the kids.
New this year, floating marinas for people who prefer to come by water and even root beer floats on a float right in the bayou.
Jared Zeller started the festival in 2006 as a way to bring cheer to this devastated neighborhood following Hurricane Katrina.
"It's pretty remarkable," Zeller said. "I really didn't have have this vision for it to explode like this, but the first year was one stage, 5,000 residents post-Katrina, and now we've grown to three stages, two-and-a-half days of programming, roughly 40,000 people, so it's pretty overwhelming."
