NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The mother and children who died in an apparent murder-suicide were each shot once, according to the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.
The autopsy results were released Friday.
Michelle McCullum, 25, had a gunshot wound to the head. Her two children, 3-year-old Cylie McCullum and 5-year-old Caden Nicholas McCullum, each sustained one gunshot wound to the torso.
The coroner has classified the Children's deaths as homicides. The mother's death has been ruled a suicide.
"At some point the victim stated that she had been feeling homicidal and suicidal, that she was armed with a firearm and intended to take the lives of the children and her own life," said New Orleans Police Chief Michael Harrison.
The mother was last seen alive around 10 p.m. on Wednesday in the Treme area. Louisiana State Police issued a child endangerment warning after the NOPD alerted them that McCullum might harm herself and her children. Their bodies were found Thursday morning inside a vehicle in a wooded section of Old Gentilly Road in New Orleans East.
"I would encourage anybody that if they get a call from anybody saying that they're thinking of ending their lives, keep them on the phone until somebody can be in their presence," said Rebecca Rainey with the Metropolitan Center for Women and Children.
