Fazende: Saints rookie minicamp notebook

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - No media access for the Saints three-day rookie minicamp this weekend. But while we couldn't observe practice, Coach Payton filled us in a few notes.

- First round pick Andrus Peat worked at both left and right tackle but spent most of the time at right tackle. Payton called him 'very impressive.' Peat is on the quarters system at Stanford, thus he will miss part of the offseason training activities. He should be back for the team's minicamp in June.

- Payton said fellow first round pick Stephone Anthony is working at middle linebacker.

- Second round pick Hau'oli Kikaha is working at strongside linebacker but will rush the passer in sub packages.

- Payton was high on third round pick, quarterback Garrett Grayson. He called him a quick study, very accurate and very sharp.

-Fifth round pick Davis Tull is not practicing as he rehabs his labrum injury.

- At cornerback three players have stood out: third round pick PJ Williams, fifth round pick Damian Swann and Delvin Breaux.

- Again the comparisons to the 2006 draft class came up and Payton embraced it. He said there were 'common boxes checked' in this class from the '06 class.

- Though his focus is his team, Payton is well aware what's happened with the Pelicans and said he sent Monty Williams a text after he was fired.
