Professional volleyball tournament starts in Kenner Friday

The Association of Volleyball Professionals New Orleans open starts this Friday in Kenner and fans of beach volleyball can get close to all the action in the sand.

Crews spent Monday setting up at Kenner's Laketown, trucking in 1200 tons of mason sand from Sun, Louisiana.

This is the first stop on the tour for the Association of Volleyball Professionals and among the competitors, Olympic medalists Kerri Walsh Jennings and Phil Dalhausser.

The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation partnered with the city of Kenner and local tourism leaders to bring the tour to town.

"Anybody who comes out on Friday, Saturday or Sunday can have a seat, first come first serve, we've got nearly 2,000 seats built out in the grandstands," says Sam Joffray, Vice President of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. "It's free seating but then there's plenty of space to bring out your chairs and blankets and be right next to the court and watch all the action in a really, really highly competitive tournament."For more information, click here.
