Former clerk accused of stealing $200K from job

MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) - Mandeville Police arrested 51-year-old Jerry Carter and booked him with 188 counts of bank fraud.

Carter worked for Minnie's Quickstop until the owners say they caught him stealing.

The first alleged incident happened in November 2013. Authorities say Carter used to responsible for making business deposits/withdrawals until the owner noticed a discrepancy on a withdrawal slip totaling $2,000. When the owner confronted Carter, investigators tell us he took the money out of his pocket and claimed the bank must have made a mistake.

The business owner removed him as an account user, but they kept him as an employee until August 2014 when they say they caught him stealing rolls of quarters. He was fired.

Upon review of the books dating back to 2012 & 2013 that involved Carter, the owner and the Mandeville Police Department revealed Carter had been withdrawing large amounts of the store's money. Over the course of 188 times, authorities say Carter stole $219,200.00

Investigators say Carter confessed. He was arrested Friday and booked into the St. Tammany Parish jail.
