NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Gas prices aren't getting in the way of New Orleans residents packing up and hitting the road.
According to a survey by GasBuddy, 68 percent of New Orleans residents will travel this summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The survey also finds 83 percent of those traveling will drive.
The survey reveals Memorial Day tops the list as the most popular weekend to travel out of the three major holidays during the summer months. Independence Day comes in second, followed by Labor Day.
GasBuddy finds the average for a gallon of regular gas in New Orleans currently stands at $2.39, the highest in nearly six months. Based on the survey, 59 percent of people responded that gas prices do not impact their vacation plans, while 21 percent said they plan to take advantage of the lower gas prices compared to recent years.
The survey also found the top three reasons for choosing a specific destination are relaxation, visiting family and friend, and sight-seeing.
