Suspects sought in French Quarter carjacking

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The NOPD is asking for the public's assistance in locating and identifying two suspects wanted for a French Quarter carjacking.

It happened Monday just before 4 a.m. in the 700 block of Barracks Street.

Police say the victim got into his vehicle, started it, and before he could close the door, an armed gunman approached him.

The gunman pointed a gun at the victim's head and demanded his wallet. The victim told suspect that his wallet was hooked to his keys.

The gunman then pulled the victim from the vehicle and threw him to the ground and it was at that point a second suspect began kicking and punching the victim.

The gunman patted on the victim's pants and stole his cell phone, wallet, and car keys.

The two suspects got into the vehicle and fled.

The armed suspect was described as a male, approximately 6'1"tall with a thin build and about 25 to 35 years of age. He was wearing a black t-shirt with white writing, dark baggy fit pants, and dark shoes.

The second suspect was described as a black male wearing all dark clothing.

The victim's vehicle is a 2009 grey Hyundai Sonata with a Louisiana license plate of VJZ428.

The vehicle had no side mirrors and the left tail light has red tape on it. The vehicle has not been located.
