New Orleans Police arrest man for French Quarter assault

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police arrested a man for an aggravated assault that took place in the French Quarter. The incident occurred Friday around 11:55 p.m. in the 1100 block of Decatur Street.

Police say that a 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were walking on Decatur Street when a man, later identified as 30-year-old Oscar Sanchez, approached them. Sanchez, who appeared to be drunk, tried to kiss the woman multiple times. The couple walked away and into Molly's at the Market with Sanchez following close behind.

Sanchez was stopped by a security guard at the front door of the business after the couple told the guard what happened prior. After being stopped, Sanchez pulled out a blue box cutter and started wielding it in the direction of the couple and the security guard. He then walked away from the business and was taken into custody a short time later, police say.

He was booked with three counts of aggravated assault.
