LSU Baseball eager to begin on Road to Omaha

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - LSU's baseball team submitted a dominant regular season, going 46-9, winning the SEC regular season title, and placed five players on the First Team All-SEC list, in addition to Paul Mainieri winning Coach of the Year and Alex Lange claiming Freshman of the Year honors.

The Tigers' first game of the SEC Tournament is Wednesday at 4:30 PM against the winner of Tuesday's meeting between Auburn and Kentucky. Mainieri is eager to begin the postseason journey "When you finally fight your way through that 56 game grind, that 30 game schedule in the SEC and you accomplish at least one goal, and that is to get to Hoover, I think there's a little bit of a sense of accomplishment that allows our players to relax and just go out and play. And they play loose, and they play aggressive and they play confident. And we just play well it seems over there."

Alex Bregman is one of the Tigers represented on the All-SEC First Team, having led the conference in stolen bases and doubles for 2015. As a junior, he knows the importance of hosting an NCAA Regional and Super Regional and hopes the Tigers have done enough to earn the Top 8 designation.

"I think we're pretty confident that we have proved that we're a very good team this year," Bregman said. "I don't know that we've done that yet, I'd like to think so but if we haven't, we're going to go battle this weekend and try to win a few games."
