NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - In 2014, Southeastern stormed through the Southland Conference tournament to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA postseason.
This season, the Lions have a regular season Southland Conference title under their belts, a 41-15 record and a myriad of conference honors to speak to their tournament hopes but are hoping that's just the beginning of the accolades.
"The guys know this absolutely means nothing going into the tournament. I think all eleven guys, myself included will definitely turn this award in, if we get this conference tournament title," Southeastern Coach Matt Riser said. Riser was recently named Southland Conference Coach of the Year.
Brother Martin product Jacob Seward earned Southland Player of the Year honors as a do-it-all outfielder and team leader with a clear message to his team, "We're still hungry, and we still want to do more and more and more. We're not happy with just going to a regional. We want to win a regional, win a Super Regional, win a World Series. We wanna do all that," Seward said.
SLU begins their tournament Wednesday against eighth-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 4 p.m.
