LSU baseball begins SEC tournament play

HOOVER, AL (WVUE) - Top-ranked LSU opens up its SEC tournament this afternoon against Auburn in Hoover, where LSU has enjoyed plenty of recent success.

The Tigers have won five of the last seven tourney titles, and are seeking a second three-peat under Coach Paul Mainieri (2008-2010, 2013-2014), who has an amazing 22-4 record in SEC tournament games.

There is certainly a Championship mentality within this program and this year's team, which at 21-8 in league play, won both the SEC West and overall conference regular season titles.

But the Tigers want a whole lot more, looking to lock down the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA tourney for the first time in program history.Regardless of the outcome in Hoover this week, you can expect LSU to land one of those coveted National Seeds, but the Tigers say they're not going to rest, they are playing to win.

First up for LSU, the Auburn Tigers, a team that played and won yesterday, beating Kentucky 6-3. LSU took 2 of 3 from Auburn this season, and another win today would keep the Tigers in the winner's bracket.Sophomore Jared Poche is on the hill for LSU. Poche is 7-1 on the season, and the former Lutcher standout will look to set the tone for the Tigers.

LSU will also receive its regular season championship trophy before today's game, which should get going around 4:30 p.m.
