NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Nicholls State put up a valiant four-run rally in the ninth inning of their Southland tournament opener against Central Arkansas but ultimately fell short, 7-6.
The Colonels trailed 7-2 after allowing two runs in the top of both the eighth and ninth innings, but put up four runs of their own in the final frame thanks to two-RBI hits from Christian Correa and Kyle Reese but the rally fell short when Seth Stevens grounded out to first base to end the threat.
Head Coach Seth Thibodeaux lamented the five errors his team made
"You can't get away with this stuff and we have to understand that in the postseason. We put ourselves in a bind," he told Southland Sports Information. "We've put ourselves in a bind all year long and we bounce back well so I'm confident for tomorrow. We need to be a championship club. Our seniors have been here already and we have to make sure we take care of the baseball."
Nicholls State will face Northwestern State in an elimination game, Thursday at 9 AM.
