NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police have obtained an arrest warrant for a homicide that took place in the in the parking lot of a St. Claude restaurant. The incident occurred Wednesday May 13, 2015 around 3 p.m. in the 1500 block of Elysian Fields Avenue. Detectives obtained the warrant for 23-year-old Janero McBride, who was one of two shooters involved.
Police say that an officer was in the area at the time of the shooting, when he saw two suspects firing shots into a red car in the parking lot of Melba's Restaurant. Following a brief car chase, the officer lost sight of the suspects' white car.
Detectives later learned that the victim's car crashed near a construction site at the intersection of Bienville and Crozat Street. Inside the car, officers found 24-year-old Toby Roche' in the front passenger seat, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators also learned that a 23-year-old man who was also inside the red car, arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm. His injury is non-life threatening, police say.
Through their investigation, detectives identified 26-year-old Jacob Love as one of the shooters. They also recovered two guns on scene. Witnesses came forward after viewing surveillance video of the shooting and identified McBride as the second shooter.
Once taken into custody, McBride will be charged with second degree murder.
