Tulane wins first AAC Tournament game

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Tulane baseball's first American Athletic Conference Tournament was a memorable one, especially for sophomore Lex Kaplan who homered twice to lead the Green Wave to a 3-1 victory over Connecticut.

Kaplan got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a high-flying home run to right-center. UConn responded in the next frame only to have Tulane regain the lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Stephen Alemais.  Kaplan put the game on ice in the eighth with a line drive over the right field wall.

After the game, Head Coach David Pierce raved about Kaplan. “Lex was really clutch,” he told Tulane Sports Information. “He had good swings all day. He got the head out on the bat and fortunately hit two home runs. I don't know if there was any motivation (after UConn took the regular season series against Tulane). We are just here to play the tournament and do the best we can. Our kids played great defense and pitched well.”

The Green Wave return to action Thursday at 6 PM against East Carolina.
