NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Dark skies greeted many wishing to observe Memorial Day outdoors. While it did not rain all day, we did see a number of very heavy thunderstorms with gusty winds, heavy down pours and lightning. One major storm shut down the Causeway for quite some time this afternoon as plenty of warm moist air is streaming north to circulate around a large low pressure system to our north. We are waiting for an upper trough currently wreaking havoc across Texas to push east. The strongest part of the system will remain to our north, but with the area under a marginal risk for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center, we will have to continue to monitor rain through the overnight and especially for Tuesday. Wednesday we will finally start to see a downward trend in the rain with much lower rain chances on the way for next weekend.
