La. to offer sales tax holiday for hurricane supply purchases

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - You can save a little money and maybe gain some peace of mind by doing a little hurricane supply shopping this weekend.

Louisiana will waive the four percent state sales tax on items like flashlights, batteries, generators, and other emergency supplies.

The 2015 Louisiana Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday will take place Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31.

The sales tax exemption applies to the first $1,500 of the purchase price of each item.

Parish and city sales taxes apply unless specifically exempted by local taxing authorities.

The 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins on June 1.
