Visitation services will be held Thursday for a New Orleans public housing agency police officer killed while on patrol at an agency construction site.

Housing Authority of New Orleans Officer James A. Bennett Jr. was killed Sunday. He was the first officer to die in the line of duty since HANO's security department became a full-fledged police force in 2012.

Visitation will start Thursday at 6 p.m. and continue at 10 a.m. Friday at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home in Kenner. The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Friday.

The public is invited to attend.

City officials, community leaders, law enforcement personnel, family and friends are expected to honor Bennett.

Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.

He is survived by his son, Justin Bennett.
