NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Louisiana Red Cross volunteers are in Texas to assist with flooding relief as hundreds evacuate their homes.
Eleven volunteers from across Louisiana are in Texas, helping with the disaster response and staffing Red Cross shelters. Five of those volunteers are from the Greater New Orleans area.
Louisiana Red Cross officials say they're on standby to send even more people and possibly more emergency response vehicles if conditions in Texas worsen.
Some homeowners are beginning their cleanup after days of devastating flooding while others are being told to evacuate. The Brazos River outside of Fort Worth is rising, leading officials to call for voluntary evacuations.
Flash Flood Warnings are in effect for dozens of areas Thursday morning. The storms produced flooding and tornadoes in Texas, Oklahoma and Mexico and have accounted for 35 deaths. The death toll in Texas alone is 15, with several people still missing.
