METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish officials hope to re-develop a key area along Metairie Road.
The land is cleared near the tracks on Metairie Road. It's prime area for a new development. Jefferson Parish officials hope to capitalize on this land.
The mere fact that three buildings were cleared in just the past two weeks indicates something is brewing - what exactly is not yet clear.
It's the former site of Lasang's Auto Services, adjacent to the train tracks at Metairie Road and Frisco bordering Old Metairie
Parish President John Young agrees there is a huge opportunity simply because of the location. He points out the area is a "walkable" community. There are banks and grocery stores. He's hoping that whatever is developed there will create what he calls a "Magazine Street effect."
"Metairie Road has got a real chance for revitalization. [We're] working with Cynthia Lee-Sheng, District Councilperson, or planning department to really take advantage of that," Young said. "We hope to revitalize Metairie Road because that's a great asset in the entire parish.
No decisions have been made as to what will go in this space, but all signs point to more progress headed to a vital corridor in Jefferson Parish.
