Robbers tie up Mid-City man with shoelaces, ransack home

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A Mid-City man is recovering after a brazen attack at his home Thursday on David Street near Canal.

Merlin, who did not want to give his last name, said he was pulling up to his home just after midnight when at least two men jumped him, sprayed him with pepper spray, then dragged him inside his house and tied him up with his shoe laces.

"They put me on the floor, going through my stuff. Golly, they took my shoes. I just went to Steinmart. They took my pants, they took my flashlights - they took all this minor stuff," Merlin said.

The thieves found Merlin's debit card and then threatened his life for the PIN.

"I said, 'man I don't even use the ATM, I don't know my ATM number.' He said, 'If you don't give me that ATM, number you're a dead man.' I said, 'man go ahead and shoot, because I don't know.' And they let me go and they were about to leave, and the other guy said, 'no I want that TV,'" Merlin said.

He said the men then ripped his TV off the wall, took his keys and stole his truck.

"I thought he was gonna blow me away. I was just saying, 'well I'm about to leave this earth.' That's exactly what I was thinking," Merlin said. "I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, huh?"
