Judge calls Gretna motel a "nuisance"

A Gretna motel people have been complaining about for years won't reopen anytime soon.

A judge declared the Luxury Inn & Suites a nuisance Thursday. The judge followed up that declaration by granting Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson a preliminary injunction.

The chief sued the motel's owners, alleging the motel was a public safety issue. He claims his department has spent $137,000 in policing and ambulance response to the site.

The state fire marshal shut down the motel in January, citing dozens of code violations.
