JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish officials get ready for a red carpet event that was years in the making. The Jefferson Performing Arts Center has a grand opening scheduled Saturday, June 20. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. It's located at 6400 Airline Drive in Metairie.
According to a press release, the grand opening will include a gala reception and a headline performance by Grammy Award-winners The Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo Duo. The opening act will showcase the artist-in-residence, along with additional acts by the Delta Festival Ballet and Jefferson Ballet.
A step into JPAC's lobby gives visitors a six-story window wall view of LaSalle Park. The state-of-the-art facility features a 51-foot proscenium arch stage and mechanized orchestra lift. There's also a full-service bar and a VIP guest lounge.
The facility was to open in 2009 at a cost of $27 million. The cost has since doubled to $54 million.
