(WVUE) - Some of the Saints' most historic offensive years under Sean Payton have featured eye-popping numbers from explosive running backs like Reggie Bush in 2006 and Darren Sproles in 2011. C.J. Spiller will look to have the same effect in 2015.
The free agent signing from Buffalo was asked about being a "scatback" and responded "Obviously, I've been very blessed and very fortunate to have tremendous speed and I take great pride in that, but I'm more than that," Spiller said. "I think people are always going to have that perception of me just being a speed back, but I've got some power and I take pride in my catching abilities, blocking abilities so I just try to make my game a complete game. So people are going to have their own labels, but I know what I'm capable of doing."
During his five years with the Bills, Spiller caught 158 passes, in addition to 668 rushes and excelled as a kickoff returner. It's a skillset Sean Payton is familiar with and excited to utilize. "He's explosive. He knows what to do. I think there's a real good fit for him with what we're going to do offensively," Payton said. "We'll put him in a role where, whether he's in the backfield, (or) flexed out. The key I think for him is when we study him is finding him ways to get him the ball in space and let him utilize his skillset and speed."
