Saints unveil new Benson banner at training facility

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Saints had one thing missing from their training facility that they believe can give them the championship mentality.

The Black and Gold unveiled a new banner of owner Tom Benson hoisting the Lombardi Trophy after their Superbowl win in 2009, something Coach Sean Payton said the team needs to see every day.

"We have photos up on the walls of our indoor facility of our Super Bowl game, Steve Gleason's blocked punt – great team images that have captured what we have built here and what we continue to build," Payton said. "The guy that has meant the most to our organization and our success is Mr. Benson. No one deserves that more."

Quarterback Drew Brees commented on the new addition to the Saints indoor facility, saying that Benson played a major role in his decision to come to New Orleans and continues to influence his play.

"Mr. Benson played an important role in my decision to come to New Orleans and join the Saints," Brees said. "He instills a championship mentality in everything he does," Brees said. "We now will have a constant reminder each and every time we step on the practice field of the man who has meant so much and given so much to everyone in this organization, the Gulf South region and especially the city of New Orleans."

The Saints believe that the championship mentality starts at the top and Tom Benson brings that to the table as an owner.

"He has one goal every year, to win a championship for our fans," Payton said. "I think putting that image of him up there reminds us daily of what we are working for."

Alvin Kamara's full participation in practices Wednesday and Thursday would give you the appearance he's ready to go against the Jets.
