Wife injured, husband dead in attempted murder-suicide

MARRERO, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted murder-suicide in Marrero.

According to police, officers were called to the 2700 block of Bayou Boeuf Drive around 3:30 a.m. on May 31. The three children inside the home, ages 21, 17 and 14, told police that they heard their parents having a heated argument in the living room that ended with a gunshot.

The 21-year-old left his room after hearing the gun shot and found his father, 46-year-old Christopher Duplechin, dead with a gunshot wound to the head. His mother, 45-year-old Julie Duplechin, had a gunshot wound to the neck. She was taken to University Hospital and it appears she will survive from her injuries.

Police believe Christopher Duplechin shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself.

Police had not received any calls from this couple in the past involving domestic violence, according to the JPSO.

The case is still under investigation.
