GRETNA, LA (WVUE) -

One man was killed and another was injured Monday in a shooting in unincorporated Gretna, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened at 11:44 a.m. on Whitney Avenue and Hamilton Place. Deputies said one victim, who is not being identified, was found lying in the street. Jacquez Young, 23, of Maderia Drive in Avondale was found behind the wheel of a 2008 four-door Audi. He sustained gunshot wounds to the head and face and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The surviving victim was taken to University Hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot wound to the side.

Homicide investigators learned from witnesses that the men were traveling northbound on Whitney Avenue when a late-model, white, four-door Ford F-150 with tinted windows, occupied by several black male suspects, pulled up alongside the Audi and fired several rounds into it.

"We did find a couple of spent shell casings as well as some marijuana that we believe was tossed out of the vehicle, but that's all the information at this time. We are still in the fact-finding stages of this investigation," said JPSO spokesman Col. John Fortunato.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the JPSO Homicide Division at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
