ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Deputies arrested two people accused of stealing from two camps and setting fire to one of them.
On Thursday, the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office received a call about a camp on fire in Bay Natchez in St. Martin Parish. About three hours later, deputies received a call about a camp burglary in the Belle River area. Detectives spoke with the victim and received the names of two people who may have been involved.
They made contact with the two suspects who were riding in a boat in the area at the time of the fire. Detectives interviewed them, and they admitted to committing one burglary in Assumption Parish and two in St. Martin Parish and to setting fire to the camp in Bay Natchez.
Brett Hebert, 18, was arrested. He was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on $22,000 bond. A juvenile who was with him was booked into the Assumption Parish Juvenile Detention Center. His bond had not been set as of Monday.
Hebert faces charges of criminal damage to property, simple burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The juvenile faces charges of criminal damage to property and simple burglary.
