Jindal to announce 2016 presidential plans June 24

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will make a "major announcement" in New Orleans on June 24. He is expected to announce if he will seek the 2016 GOP nomination for the White House.

That's according to Jindal's political adviser Timmy Teepell, the Associated Press reports.

Political analysts have speculated for months that Jindal would run for the nation's highest office.

On May 18, Jindal announced a campaign exploratory committee.

Jindal, the country's first elected Indian-American governor, previously said he would announce his decision after the state legislative session ends on June 11. The governor has been absent for much of the legislative session.

If Jindal announces his candidacy, he will join a growing a crowded field of Republicans vying for the White House. GOP candidates include Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum.
