NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Crimestoppers is now offering $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect responsible for killing HANO Officer James Bennett, Jr.

Bennett was found shout to death in his patrol car on May 21 near the intersection of Erato Street and Freret Street. He was patrolling a Central City housing development construction site at the time of his death.

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michael Harrison said his detectives need more information from the public to help solve the case. The FBI is also helping the investigation.

Officials from the New Orleans housing authority said they will never recover from this incident, but the department will be stronger. They said that is the way Bennett would have wanted it.

The reward was initially set at $5,000.

Citizens with information that can help solve this crime are asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP. You could receive a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the information leading only to the arrest, except on homicides, where Crimestoppers will pay half of the reward upon the arrest and half on the indictment of the responsible person(s). You do not have to give your name nor testify to receive the reward but you must contact Crimestoppers directly with your information. Citizens can also submit an anonymous tip online to Crimestoppers at www.crimestoppersgno.org.
