NOPD: Man wanted for girlfriend's shooting death

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police believe a 25-year-old man shot his girlfriend to death in her Desire area residence.

The NOPD obtained an arrest warrant for Kernell Harrell, 25, for allegedly killing Melissa Hunter, 23, late Wednesday night in the 3600 block of Metropolitan Street.

Officers were called to the area around 10:30 p.m. to investigate a possible shooting. They found Hunter lying on her bedroom floor, suffering from several gunshot wounds to the body. She died on the scene.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Harrelll could be responsible for the homicide.

He is wanted for second-degree murder.
