Man connected to 4 Algiers car burglaries, police say

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with a car theft and several car burglaries in Algiers.

Detectives say they were were able to connect Brice Perez to the crimes through citizen participation. Police believe he is responsible for the following incidents:

On Saturday, May 23, 2015, around 3:05 a.m., a white 2013 Nissan Maxima was stolen from the driveway of a home in the 2900 block of Donner Avenue.

On Monday, May 25, 2015, around 11:15 a.m., a cream Toyota Camry was burglarized in the driveway of a home in the 3600 block of Timber Wolf Lane. The owner told detectives that $13 in cash was missing from the vehicle.

Around 9:30 p.m., a white KIA SUV was burglarized in front of a residence in the 3500 block of Timber Wolf Lane. The owner told detectives that two rings valued at over $200 were stolen from the vehicle.

On Tuesday, May 26, 2015, around 12:21 a.m., a black Mazda Protégé was burglarized in front of a residence in the 3600 block of Timber Wolf Lane. An iPhone and other items were stolen from the vehicle.

Around 2:00 a.m., a block Dodge Challenger was burglarized in the 5300 block of Forest Park Lane. The vehicle had been ransacked. The owner told detectives that nothing was stolen from the vehicle. Around the same time, a tan Kia was burglarized in the 5200 block of Forest Park Lane. A female's wallet was stolen from the vehicle.

Perez was booked into Central Lock-up with over seven counts of simple burglary. The Fourth District Investigative Unit is in charge of the investigation and can be reached at 504-658-6040.

Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
