Pole dancing convention slides into New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Pole dancers from around the nation slide into New Orleans.

The fifth annual International Pole Convention, or PoleCon, gathers in New Orleans at the Hyatt Regency Center.

Pole dancing is not just for burlesque. The industry is rapidly expanding and public perception has followed as activities such as pole fitness classes enter the mainstream.

PoleCon showcases the multifaceted nature of pole sports and offers diverse pole performances including "Dangerous Curves" (for plus-sized male and female pole dancers) and a "Men of Pole" showcase.

Workshops will be hosted by the likes of Cleo the Hurricane and Deb Roach, a renowned one-armed Australian pole dancer and yoga instructor. The U.S. Pole Sports Federation will host the Pole Sports Championship USA on Friday at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. The winner will go on to compete in the World Pole Sports Championship in London.

The convention is open to the public. It will be held through Sunday.

Founded in 2009, PoleCon is the original annual event celebrating the pole dance and pole fitness community with performances, workshops and featured product and service exhibitors.

This will be the first PoleCon held in New Orleans and is expected to generate more than $800,000 in economic impact.
