HAPPENING TODAY: Closing arguments for former BP executive; Benson v. Benson enters day 5 of competency trial

Closing arguments for former BP executive

Closing arguments begin Friday in the trial of a former BP executive.

David Rainey is accused of lying to federal investigators about how much oil was leaking into the Gulf of Mexico following the spill in 2010.

Eleven men died and approximately 134 million gallons of oil spilled into the Gulf.

Two other high ranking BP employees, Donald Vidrine and Robert Kaluza, are charged with 11 counts of manslaughter. They're scheduled for trial next year.

Day 5 of Benson competency trial

The Benson family power struggle continues to play out in Civil District Court.

Tom Benson's daughter, Renee, and her children, Rita and Ryan LeBlanc, are trying to prove that the 87-year-old Pelicans and Saints owner is mentally unfit to handle his affairs, including the control of his sports empire.

Ryan LeBlanc testified for three hours on Thursday, followed by Doctor Ted Bloch – a psychiatrist hired by the plaintiffs.
