PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Four more potential sex abuse victims have been identified since the May 29 arrest of a former Plaquemines Parish man, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.
After being extradited from Florida to Louisiana last week, 67-year-old Joseph Gable Wood Sr. was jailed without bond for the rape of a girl more than 30 years ago in Port Sulpher.
Investigators have contacted some of the newly-identified victims, all of whom live in South Louisiana. They have also received inquiries from other law enforcement agencies.
The Sheriff's Office has learned that Wood has lived in Alaska, Montana and Mississippi, as well as Louisiana and Florida, and there may be additional victims in those states.
Wood had been scheduled to appear Friday morning in the 25th Judicial District Court for a bail hearing, but his attorney did not show up. The hearing was rescheduled for June 12 at 10:30 a.m.
The sheriff is asking anyone who has been victimized by Wood or who may have additional information on sex crimes committed by him to contact Detective Sergeant Aaron Verrette at (504) 564-2525 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
