Robberies occur 1 hour, 1 mile apart on St. Claude Ave

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Police are investigating two armed robberies that took place a mile apart Sunday morning.

According to NOPD, the first robbery occurred at Mike's Food Store at 3935 St. Claude Ave around 1 a.m.. Police say an unknown black male entered the store and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the cashier. The unknown gunman demanded money out of the register and the cashier complied. The perpetrator fled the scene with cash, Powerade and a 12-pack of beer.

A second armed robbery occurred down the road about an hour later at 2:15 a.m.

According to police, the victim was putting air in his tires in the 5100 block of St. Claude Ave. an armed man with a cloth over his face approached him. The masked man stuck a chrome, semi-automatic weapon in the victim's face and the victim fled into a the nearby Brother's Food Store. The  masked man then got into the victim's car and fled.
