Police recover stolen guns, jewelry and cellphones

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Two people are under arrest accused of stealing from unlocked homes and cars in the Kings Point area of Slidell. Detectives say the pair stole GPS units, prescription medicine, digital cameras, jewelry, cell phones, money and guns that were left unsecured.  One of the weapons stolen came from a law enforcement agency's vehicle.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office have 21-year-old Gary Hansome in custody. A juvenile was also arrested and booked into Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center. They were picked up when Hansome pawned some of the stolen items.

Detectives say the pair are responsible for approximately 20 vehicle burglaries and as many as three residential burglaries. They say the burglaries date back to early February.

Hansome is booked with numerous counts of simple burglary, simple burglary of a law enforcement vehicle, theft of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The 16-year-old is booked with numerous counts of simple burglary, simple burglary of a law enforcement vehicle, theft of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Detectives say the total value of the recovered property is about $12,000. They would like to return the stolen property to the rightful owners. Burglary victims in the Kings Point area are asked to call Detective Dwight Evans at 985-726-7832.
