CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (WVUE) - A Coast Guard helicopter rescued a woman, her kids and their dog Tuesday (June 10). The family's boat ran aground near Sunday Beach on Matagorda Island.
The Coast Guard says it made the decision to transport the mother, two children and dog from the secluded beach to safety, because of the high risk of dehydration, due to heat and lack of food and water.
At around 2:00 p.m., a man called watchstanders at Station Port O'Connor stating that his boat rain aground in an isolated location in Pass Cavalla on Matagorda Island and his wife, two kids and dog were still aboard.
A station Port O'Connor boat crew launched to help, and an Air Station Corpus helicopter crew diverted to the scene. The crew was not able to reach the stranded family because of the water depth. The helicopter crew landed on the beach to pick up the woman, her sons, 6 and 13, and their Dachshund to Station Port O'Connor.
