Troopers make big cocaine haul in north shore traffic stop

HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) -

Louisiana State Troopers seized almost a half million dollars worth of cocaine in a traffic stop on Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish Wednesday morning.

The troopers pulled over the Nissan Rogue for a traffic violation. But, they say something raised suspicions so they asked for and were granted consent to search the vehicle.

Troopers found 15.5 kilos of cocaine worth more than $450,000 concealed in a compartment and a semi-automatic handgun.

Michael Mendez, 51 of Houston, Texas was arrested for felony possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
