METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish Coroner Dr. Gerry Cvitanovich has released the name of the woman whose body was found Wednesday on Interstate 10 in Metairie. The body of 19-year-old Jasilas Wright was found around 5:30 a.m. near Veterans Boulevard.
Police say that Louisiana State Troopers received reports that a dog was dead on the side of the interstate. Responding authorities arrived on scene and found that the deceased body was human. Detectives closed the west-bound lanes of the interstate, just past Clearview Parkway, for several hours to conduct an investigation. The interstate re-opened, just before 11 a.m.
Wednesday's discovery is the second in week involving bodies being found on Interstate 10. On Thursday, New Orleans police responded to a stretch to I-10 in New Orleans East where the body of 16-year-old Kaylan Woods was found. Woods' preliminary cause of death is multiple blunt traumatic injuries, according to a spokesperson with the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.
Authorities do not believe that the two incidents are related.
