BOGALUSA, LA (WVUE) - ?
Bogalusa Police say a small release Wednesday night from the International Paper Mill does not pose a threat to nearby businesses and residents.
Chief Joe Culpepper says that a pipe broke at the mill around 7:00. It released a small about of what's called black liquor and covered part of Willis Avenue with a fine mist.
Black liquor is a byproduct of the paper making process.
Chief Culpepper says that the rupture was under control quickly and the Department of Environmental Quality did not feel there was a health threat to the community.
Crews will put down sand on Willis Avenue to absorb any of the substance and then vacuum trucks will suck up the sand.
Culpepper says if anyone finds the black liquor on their cars or other items, it can be cleaned with soap and water.
