METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - The preliminary autopsy results have been released after a body was found along I-10 westbound on Wednesday near Veterans Boulevard.
The body of Jasilas Wright, 19, was found Wednesday morning near Veterans Boulevard. The preliminary cause of death is multiple blunt force trauma, according to Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich. No further information was immediately available.
State troopers say they first received reports that a dog was dead on the highway around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. However, after further investigation, deputies confirmed that it was a human body along the road.
"Where the initial impact occurred doesn't appear to be a place where pedestrians would cross the interstate," said Nick Manale with Louisiana State Police. "It is on the elevated portion of the interstate and investigation is in its early stages. It doesn't appear to be a pedestrian, but we're not ruling that out. We're looking at all possibilities here."
This is the second such incident in the past six days, although troopers do not think the incidents are connected. On Thursday (June 4), the body of 16-year-old Kaylan Ward was found around 6:30 a.m. along eastbound I-10 at Bullard Avenue in New Orleans. A Coroner's Office spokesperson says that the preliminary cause of death is multiple blunt traumatic injuries. Investigators are still in the process of gathering evidence to determine what happened to Ward.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
