OMAHA, NE (WVUE) - All of the locals love when the Tigers are in Omaha and winning, bringing in those rowdy and fun loving fans. For the team, there's a balance between enjoying all the festivities, and also taking care of business on the field, but there's no question, LSU baseball and the College World Series are a perfect match.
"All you have to do is look at the flag poles outside the Box, you'll see six national championship flags flying," LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. "I think we have made 17 trips to Omaha now in basically the last three decades, which is I believe as much as anybody if not more. The other thing that really makes it special and unique is his many fans come to Omaha. They come here not just to attend the games but to enjoy themselves. They spend money, they go to the restaurants, they go the watering holes. They're loud and friendly and invite people into their tailgates. I think LSU and the College World Series are pretty synonymous."
The Tigers are staying at the Hyatt Place in Old Market Omaha. Adam Duggins, the hotel's Director of Sales, was thrilled to find out they would be hosting the Tigers.
"I think for people who have grown up in the Omaha area, LSU is famous here for the way your fans travel and the impact you have on the city," Duggins said. "I just felt really lucky to have the Baton Rouge regional and super excited to go through that and the Super Regionals."
After checking into their hotel, the team held a closed practice at Creighton University. Coach Mainieri said his guys will have tonight off, free to roam around with family and friends.
