NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

One day after confirming plans to reassign and terminate some employees, The Orleans Parish School Board releases details of plans to reorganize its central office.

Superintendent Henderson Lewis shared his plans during Thursday's Budget and Finance Committee meeting.

"The purpose of the reorganization is to build a school system that is centered on school autonomy, and building a culture of support, transparency, and equity in the central office," Lewis said in a statement. He says the change is necessary in order to ensure the Orleans Parish School Board is doing everything possible to provide additional resources at the school level.

The reorganization will occur in three phases throughout the next fiscal year.

Phase one, which will begin next week, will focus on driving resources to schools, building the Superintendent's leadership team and eliminating some central office positions in order to provide additional resources to schools. As promised in his 180 day Entry Plan, Dr. Lewis plans to continue meeting with community and civic leaders to present his plans and listen to their ideas and concerns.

Phase two will occur in July and August, with the final staffing recommendations submitted with the budget, as done in previous years. This phase will focus on defining OPSB's vision for the future, finalizing department budgets and developing a yearlong transition plan.

The final phase, which will occur over next fiscal year, will focus on improving district performance and promoting fiscal transparency.
