Families of women found dead along I-10 believe cases "not related"

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The family members of the two young women found dead along I-10 believe the two cases are unrelated.

Wednesday morning, police found Jasilas Wright, 19, dead on the interstate near Veterans Blvd.

On June 4th, police found Kaylan Ward, 16, dead on the Bullard overpass.

"It's not related because we know that the person she was with. We have an idea that this person did this violent thing to my grand baby," Wright's grandmother Carol Bernard said.

"It's not related," Ward's mother Kenisha Martin-Nelson said. "I really don't know this family but on my behalf, I can say that for a fact my daughter didn't get into the car with anybody she didn't know. Whoever did this to my daughter, she knew them and trusted them."

Thursday afternoon, State Police and NOPD said the separate investigations do not appear to be related.

"There is no evidence to right now to suggest these two incidents are related," NOPD Chief Michael Harrison said.

"If we get information to suggest that they are related then we'll look at that, however multiple interviews have been conducted already and our investigation is ongoing. Nothing has been indicated to where they are related at this point in time," Trooper Melissa Matey said.
