NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A recent study has ranked New Orleans and two other Louisiana cities among the worst cities for families in the United States.
New Orleans is the 9th worst city for families in the United States, according to a study from finance website WalletHub. The Crescent City ranks No. 142 among a list of the 150 most populated cities in the United States.
Baton Rouge (No. 146) and Shreveport (No. 144) also ranked among the worst family-friendly cities in America.
The study was rather complex, based on 30 key metrics that take into account essential family dynamics such as the relative cost of housing, the quality of local school and health care systems, safety and the opportunities for fun and recreation. The study found that New Orleans ranks near last in a number of areas, including (1 being the best, 150 being the worst):

No. 102: Violent crime rate
No. 122: Number of families receiving food stamps
No. 118: Housing affordability
No. 132: Divorce rate
No. 119: Unemployment rate
