Kenner Police arrest man for severely beating girlfriend

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A Kenner man has been arrested for attempted second degree murder after police say he severely beat his girlfriend. The incident occurred Saturday at an apartment complex in Kenner.

According to police, officers responded to a Kenner apartment complex on a domestic violence call. Police learned that 19-year-old Durrell Brian Joseph entered the apartment, belonging to his 20-year-old girlfriend, and began to severely beat her. The victim was found covered in blood with four large contusions to her forehead. She also had deep lacerations both between her eyes and on the lower portion of her left eye.

Police say that Joseph stomped the victim causing her to lose consciousness. The victim was brought to a local hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. Detectives learned that the victim was pregnant and that she has been dating Joseph for six months. They also learned that she was beaten because she expressed her desire to end the relationship.

Members of the U.S. Marshall's Gulf Coast Region Task Force took Joseph into custody on Tuesday. Detectives have also charged Joseph with aggravated battery, in addition to, the second degree murder charge. The battery charge stemmed from a December 2014 incident where he stabbed the same woman in the back.

If you have any information that you could provide to police concerning Durrell Joseph, you are asked to call Kenner Detective Vincent Miranti at 504-712-2330 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
